Q: How do I resolve error "eTakeoffNewSetup20XXX.exe is not a valid Win32 application" when installing eTakeoff?
Q: How do I resolve error "Error reading setup initialization file" when installing eTakeoff"?

A: These errors happen when the installation package is corrupted during the download process. To correct the problem, do the following:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and click on "Tools/Internet Options".
  2. Then click on the "Delete" button.
  3. Make sure "Temporary Internet Files" is checked then Click Delete.
  4. Re-boot your computer.
  5. Repeat the download and installation.

Q: Why can't I download your program? I filled out the form, clicked "Continue" and nothing happened.
A: After you press "Continue", a second page is displayed. In this page you need to click on the link "Click Here to begin Downloading".
The Download Open/Save Dialog will then be displayed. Press the "Open" button to download the installation file and start the installation.

Q: When I try to download eTakeoff and click on "Click here to begin Downloading", I get a "thank you" message but nothing is downloaded.
A: Internet Explorer may be blocking the download pop-up. In Internet Explorer, you need to allow the www.eTakeoff.com website in your Pop-up Blocker Settings:

  1. From Internet Explorer, click on "Tools/Pop-Up Blocker/Pop-up Block Settings".
  2. Type www.eTakeoff.com in the Address of website to allow box.
  3. Click on Add.
  4. Click on Close.
  5. Repeat the download and installation

Q: Why do I get the error message: "Current security settings does not allow this file to be downloaded"?
A: This may be caused by a setting in Internet Explorer. To change the security level for downloads from the internet, do the following:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and click on "Tools/Internet Options".
  2. Click the "Security Tab" and then press the "Custom Level..." button.
  3. Scroll down to the Downloads section and Enable "Automatic prompting for file downloads" and "File download".
  4. Click "OK" button twice to finish.
  5. Close Internet Explorer.
  6. Open Internet Explorer and try to download eTakeoff again.

Q: I downloaded and installed eTakeoff. How do I start it?
A: During the installation, an icon is added to your desktop. Simply double-click that icon.
If you don't see that icon, it's possible that you downloaded the installation file but didn't complete the install. Follow the instructions in the previous question and be sure to press the "Open" button in the Download Open/Save Dialog.

Q: Why do I receive an "Access Denied" error for "RViewProj.ctr"?
A: Your security level does not allow you to install eTakeoff. You should check with your System Administrator.

Q: Are there any special procedures for installing eTakeoff on "Vista"?
A: You must turn off User Access Control (UAC) for the installation. That can be done as follows:

  1. From the "Start" menu (in the lower-left-hand corner of your screen), select either "Settings" then "Control Panel" if you use the Windows Classic view or "Control Panel" if you use the Windows default view. Make sure the Control Panel Window is in "Classic View", then double-click on the "User Accounts" icon.
  2. In the User Accounts Window, click on "Turn User Account Control on or off"
  3. In the User Account Control window, UN-CHECK the checkbox labeled "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer" then press the "OK" button.
  4. Re-start your computer to put the new UAC setting into effect.

Then download and install eTakeoff.

Note: When the installation is complete, you should turn UAC back on. Follow the same steps above but this time CHECK the checkbox labeled "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". If you leave UAC off, you will be prompted to turn it on the next time you restart your computer.

Q: Can I install eTakeoff on my Apple Macintosh?
A: There is no Macintosh-specific version of eTakeoff. You may be able to run it using Windows emulation. But we do not support eTakeoff on the Macintosh.

Q: Why do I have to enter my Installation Password each time I open eTakeoff?
A: You probably don't have permission to access the registry folder where the eTakeoff license information is stored. Try right clicking on the "eTakeoff Application" icon on the desktop and select "Run as Administrator". When eTakeoff is open, enter your Installation Password again. Close eTakeoff and then open again normally.

Q: Can I install eTakeoff on more than one computer?
A: You can install the Basic (free) version of eTakeoff on as many computers as you like. Licenses for the Pro, Pro-Plus and Premier versions of eTakeoff must be purchased for each computer. The Basic version is able to display and review all information created by the advanced version.
